Delicious Applesauce Treat

Everyone, young and old, can appreciate the taste of freshly made applesauce.  This is a common food for babies because it is easy to eat, a little sweet and great tasting.  Here is a great recipe for applesauce you can make at home, you're baby will be happy you did.

Cinnamon, Spice & Everything Nice Applesauce

4 large or 6 medium apples, peeled
1.2 small lemon
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

Cut the core out of the apples, chop the remaining apple up into small pieces.  Put the apple pieces into a medium pot. Take the lemon and squeeze the juice out of it and then pour juice over the apples.  Add remaining ingredients.  Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat.  When mixture has boiled, reduce heat to low and cover.  Allow to simmer, stirring often until apples are soft and mushy (about 20-30 minutes).  Remove apples from heat once they are soft and allow to cool for 15-20 minutes.  Once the apples have cooled but while they are still slightly warm,  mash them with a potato masher until they are the texture you want.  Serve applesauce warm or chilled depending on your preference.
