Making Crackers For Baby
Graham crackers are a great cracker to start babies off with because they soften easily and taste great. You can make these at home as a cracker or even roll them into a log shape to be used as a baby teether.
Graham Crackers From Scratch
Ingredients:
1 cup flour (graham or whole wheat) 1 cup unbleached flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 cup butter or margarine 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup milk
Directions:
Begin by mixing together the flours and the baking powder. Add butter or margarine and mix until you get the consistency of cornmeal. Blend in the sugar. Then add the milk and this will help to make the dough stiff. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into squares and prick them with a fork. Brush the tops of the crackers with milk. Bake in the over at 400F on a baking sheet that is not greased for about 18 minutes or until you can see the crackers turn golden brown. Alternatively you can roll these crackers thicker and use them as teething biscuits.
